Trump Posts Controversial Image Showing Venezuela Mapped over US flag

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump posted a highly controversial image showing Venezuela mapped over a US flag and labeled “51st State,” escalating his recent comments about possibly integrating the country into the United States.

According to reports, the image was shared on Truth Social shortly after Trump said in a television interview that he was “seriously considering” making Venezuela part of the US. The post did not include additional commentary beyond the visual depiction.

The move immediately triggered political pushback. Venezuela’s acting leadership rejected the idea outright, reaffirming national sovereignty and independence and stressing that the country would not accept any form of annexation.

The post came amid heightened diplomatic and geopolitical activity, as Trump was traveling to China for high-level meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping focused on trade, Taiwan, and regional conflicts.

Reports also indicate that US officials have not issued detailed public clarification beyond noting Trump’s broader stance on expanding US strategic influence in the Western Hemisphere.

The episode adds to growing international attention around Trump’s statements on territorial expansion, which have also included references to other regions in earlier remarks.
