Russia Criticizes US Economic Strategies
(MENAFN) Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova declared on Monday that the United States is employing tariffs and sanctions as tools to undermine the sovereignty of nations.
She asserted that no form of "tariff wars" or sanctions could reverse the "natural course" of historical development.
Zakharova described the current global climate, dominated by "sanctions and restrictions," as a "regrettable reality" of this phase in world affairs. These measures, she stated, are impacting nations around the globe.
She claimed that "Washington cannot come to terms with the loss of hegemony in the emerging multipolar world order" and accused the US of adhering to a "neocolonial policy" in a desperate effort to hold onto its influence.
Highlighting what she termed "politicized levers of economic pressure," Zakharova accused the United States of targeting its adversaries through economic means.
She remarked: "This US policy is a direct attack on the national sovereignty of states and an attempt to interfere in their internal affairs."
The repercussions of such tactics, she warned, include hindering global economic development, damaging supply chains, and fostering economic fragmentation on an international scale.
She also pointed out that growing economic pressure on countries like Brazil contradicts the principles of "free trade" previously championed by Western powers.
In conclusion, Zakharova asserted that no "tariff wars" or penalties could disrupt the "natural course of history."
She emphasized that Russia has "a huge number of partners, like-minded people, and allies" across the Global South, especially within BRICS, who share this perspective.
